Spielberg’s stated purpose while filming “The Post” was to motivate the press to investigate a President, and since the Times acceded to Nixon’s desist order he couldn’t elevate them as the shining example of what to do —

— thus the emphasis on the Post.

I thought the film portrayed Daniel Ellsberg as an honest, courageous man, dedicated to exposing an unpleasant truth to end an unwise and unproductive violence, and willing to sacrifice his career and more to do so.

I found it complimentary, if not centered on him.
