Metropolis — now — more than just a movie!
It’s one of the best early twentieth century documentaries about the twenty-first century.
How could they have known we’d become mind-numbed automatons, cogs in the machine, afraid to be individuals, afraid to step out of line, afraid to express even a hint of our humanity, afraid of being crushed by the machine or ostracized or punished by those at the controls!
A forgotten cinematic, cultural and psychological gem that everyone should have to watch while standing in line at the polls.
And, you know, I don’t think I’ve ever read a review…crap…another item on the ever-lengthening to-write list.
Thanks Jeffrey, for the piece and the reminder.
I reserve the right to come back and insert a “Metropolis” review when I get around to it.
